本單元的設計首先從觀察與欣賞具濃厚民俗色彩的廟宇建築開始，體認並珍視先民遺留下來的民間藝術文化資產，了解這些藝術文化資產，相對也能提高對地方的認同感。接著，希望藉由學生訪問長輩、蒐集資料中，慢慢認識自己家鄉的重要信仰建築物─福隆巖，包括其歷史沿革、簡介、慶典活動、位置，以及福隆巖供奉的神明相關資訊等；並依據之前對廟宇建築特色的認識，和實地走訪，了解福隆巖的建築特色。再來，便是依據自己所觀察到的福隆巖，選擇合適的角度與地點，進行水彩寫生，讓福隆巖的影像更深刻烙印在學生腦海裡。最後，在一連串的資料蒐集以及實地走訪以後，讓學生學習將資料整理歸納，發揮創意製作福隆巖的導覽手冊，向大家介紹地方的文化藝術和風俗，不僅學生本身更深一層探索與認同家鄉文化資產，也能將地方文化推銷出去，一舉兩得。
