靜電是什麼？靜電指的是電荷在物體表面不平衡分佈所引起的現象，當兩個物體互相摩擦時，電子會從一個物體轉移到另一個物體上，這種因為電子轉移而產生的電荷現象，就稱為靜電。靜電不會像電流一樣流動，它是暫時停留在物體表面的電荷，直到遇到導體或接地後才會釋放。以日常生活中的例子來說，當我們用塑膠梳子梳頭髮時，會發現頭髮變得容易吸在臉上，這是因為梳頭的過程中，電子從頭髮轉移到梳子上，使頭髮和梳子帶靜電，與臉產生吸附現象。

中世紀的歐洲人普遍認為，電與磁是一樣的，而當時的英國御醫吉爾伯特，針對這件事情提出質疑，並向當時最博學的義大利學者波爾塔展開了一場對決。

熱輻射是什麼？熱除了會透過傳導、對流的方式從高溫處傳播到低溫處，也可以不需要接觸或介質，直接以「電磁波」形式從物體表面向外釋放，這種方式就稱為「熱輻射」，而這些電磁波主要集中在紅外線波段。熱輻射的傳遞方式與光相似，當物體溫度高於環境時，會以紅外線的形式將熱輻射出去；物體溫度低於環境時，會得到環境以紅外線的形式給的輻射熱。舉例來說，當你站在火爐或電暖器前，即使沒有碰到它，也會感到高溫物體透過熱輻射將熱傳到你身上，使你感到溫暖。熱輻射的吸收/ 放出效率會受到物體表面的顏色與材質影響，能力比較如下：顏色與材質：深色霧面 > 深色亮面 > 淺色霧面 > 淺色亮面黑色粗糙霧面物體： 吸收與放出輻射熱的能力最強銀白色光滑亮面物體： 最會反射輻射熱，吸收與放出能力最弱

亞里斯多德認為，物體必須受力才能持續運動。但伽利略在斜面實驗中卻發現，若運動中的物體不受力的話就會維持運動狀態。於是伽利略提出了慣性--也就是「萬物有習慣維持原本運動狀態的性質」的說法。
