「客家八音」是最具客家色彩的純音樂藝術，其音樂風格、演出形式、音樂內容與樂器使用，隨著族群遷徙而融合各地傳統民間音樂，逐漸演變成一特殊的器樂曲種。「客家八音」是以鼓吹樂為基本形式的一種樂器合奏，即以鑼鼓樂為基礎加嗩吶類樂器為主。演奏內容分為「吹場樂」和「絃索樂」。「吹場樂」即鼓吹樂，主要用於廟會典禮和婚喪喜慶等禮俗等演出；「絃索樂」多用於北管戲以及純器樂演奏。 臺灣客家八音最常用於婚喪喜慶等場合，但台灣南部和北部在使用樂器和編制上有所不同。客家八音演奏的場合與民間的活動息息相關，舉凡廟會、宗教活動或生命禮俗皆需要它；另外它也與臺灣傳統北管戲密不可分。

This is a short clip from an intense thunderstorm, recorded from my second story Queens apartment from an open bathroom window during the early afternoon of July 15, 2015. Some traffic and airplanes can be heard in the background. This clip was recorded using an Apple iPhone 6 and the Zoom iQ6 X/Y stereo microphone with a Rode Dead Kitten windscreen at low volume, normalized later. This recording lasts until the battery on my iPhone hit 5%, at which point the Zoom Handy Recorder app automatically stopped.
