The Turing Welchman Bombe Rebuild Trust have kindly given me permission to upload this recording of the Bombe at Bletchley Park. The recording was made on my Sony ICD-BX112. This sound is immensely historical and I'm proud to be allowed to upload it to Freesound.
The Bombe was invented by Turing and Welchman to decipher the German Enigma Machine codes in the Second World War. It helped to end the war and save countless lives.
The work for this machine also gave birth to computing, so the device you are reading these words on came out of the Bombe. I think it's a massive understatement to say the machine that made this sound shaped our lives immeasurably.
