This is a sound heard at about 1:10am today. It is quite faint in the recording. The sound was a distant metallic hammering, repeating monotonously at regular intervals. It went on for several minutes, so there was enought time for me to go and get the recorder and place it outside to capture it. Only when I got outside I realized it was actually raining, that is why I cut my recording short. In total, I believe the hammering went on for over 5 minutes. Could it be burglars breaking into a house or a garage? - It took too long and made far too much noise. The noise seemed to be pretty (a few blocks away), must have been quite loud closer, especially at that time of night when everything is quite. MAybe it was a sound comming from construction works or an industrial site, much farther away...
