For those of us without the money and/or the space to have a modular synth, Kamioooka is one of the free VST alternatives. The modules are fairly simple, the onboard effects are basic. The modules you get are a multimode analogue-style oscillator, ADSR envelope, LFO, multimode filter, Voltage controlled amplifier, sequencer and a utilities module. Surprisingly, the amount of combinations, internal modulation and madness that can be generated is still insane! Here is a little modular synth doodling dedicated to my friend gis_sweden. Only one sine oscillator, feedding back (and syncinc) with itself, along with some filter and LFO modules.
