蔡國強，這位自1980年代後期崛起於國際藝壇，被美國紐約時報評為世界上不可或缺的藝術家，首度在台灣舉辦回顧性大型個展，展覽作品包括分別網羅自歐美、亞洲等多所美術館及私人收藏的火藥草圖、爆破紀錄和大型裝置藝術，以及匯集許多蔡國強早期作品、文件等的《大事紀》與特別為本展創作的新作。蔡國強的創作一貫表達了一種從東方哲學和現代宇宙論所引伸的形而上思索，其氣勢磅礡的大型爆破作品和裝置藝術立足國際藝壇。這次展覽除了嘗試從國際當代藝術的實踐、社會和地緣政治的批判、東方的美學與文史哲學等文化的角度觀照蔡國強的創作外，從策畫和理念上將更深入地討論藝術家的成長背景和創作生活，希望能完整呈現蔡國強其人與其藝術精神。
