Just a very simple experiment I performed in Audacity. I was messing around with tone generated "chirps". I duplicated a single chirp, multiplied it and added additional sound effects to give it a 1950s science fiction shortwave type of sound. You are free to use this sound effect in any way you wish. After downloading so many sounds from freesound, I feel I am obligated to give something back. I will be uploading more sounds as I am able to.
