the language of representation surrounding field recording obscures the creative and constructive elements of the process. to record is, in many ways, to make; to think the process of field recording as a one-to-one, direct correspondence between image and reality does not help us understand the real nor the image.Crate Digging. this field recording was made by dragging the metal cover of a drainage ditch over the hole it covered. the tascam dr100 mkii built-in microphone was 6 inches away from the metal and held at a right angle to the surface. i moved the microphone slowly as i dragged the metal cover. the microphone was set to record in the 'unidirectional' mode. it was then mixed lightly in Logic Pro X.One sound taken from the 'Microblocks, vol.1' percussive found sound sample-pack.
